The Age Curve: where the Hyrox field slows down, and where it does not

What is the Age Curve?

The Age Curve is the line you get when you put each age group's benchmark finish next to the season benchmark of its sex, at 100. A group at 100 finishes exactly on the benchmark, below 100 faster, above 100 slower. The Men Open benchmark currently sits at 1:30:54, Women Open at 1:37:41. The second half of the curve is the share: how much of the field each age group actually makes up.

Benchmark finish, index and share per age group

Men Open and Women Open per age group, each set against the season benchmark of the same sex (100). Lower is faster. Groups under 100 finishers per sex are left out of the table; the share counts every finisher, small groups included, so the column adds up to the whole field.

At what age does the field slow down?

Later than the age-group brackets suggest. In Men Open the fastest field is 16-24 at 97, and every group up to 39 stays within 100. The bend comes at 50-54, the first group at 106 or more. From there the curve rises for real: the 65-69 field finishes at 124, 1:53:07 against a benchmark of 1:30:54, across 106 finishers. In Women Open the first group at 110 is 55-59, and the 55-59 field sits at 110.

Where does the time go?

Not to the transitions. The roxzone of the 16-24 field is 7:20, the 65-69 field pays 8:50: the older field walks the course almost as fast. Wall Balls tell the other story: 6:44 for 16-24 against 11:10 for 65-69. The curve is a strength-endurance curve, not a pacing curve, and the last station is where it shows.

How old is the Hyrox field?

Younger than the coverage. The 25 to 39 groups make up 62.2% of Men Open and 62.5% of Women Open. Fifty and over is 7.2% of the men's field and 6.0% of the women's. Both halves of the curve matter: the older groups are slower on the benchmark, and they are a small part of the start list.

At what age do Hyrox times get slower?

Across 45905 Open finishers this season, the Men Open benchmark stays flat until 39 and bends at 50-54, index 106 against the season benchmark of 100; the 65-69 field sits at 124 (Splitprint, 2026-09-13). An index is a benchmark, not a median: it weighs the field medians of multiple events.

What share of Hyrox finishers is over 50?

7.2% of Men Open and 6.0% of Women Open this season. When a September 2026 news report called Hyrox popular among older athletes in China, the finish lists of the same month showed the 50-plus share in Beijing around 3%, against roughly 5% in Amsterdam and 7% in Manchester (open division, probe of 13 September 2026). The curve above is the season-wide picture behind that.

Why does Splitprint call it the Age Curve?

Because "older is slower" hides where the bend is and how small the older groups are. The term is defined once, on our methodology page, and computed the same way for every age group from official results.
